“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship, with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.”

He who was with the Father since the beginning of what we call time, left His throne so that we too may know what it is to be united to God. through Christ, we are fused, the person we once were withers away while the one who has been created flourishes. We become one on thought, desire, speech and action.

Think about the body. I like to think of it as a complex and intricately designed factory, composed of various systems. If the systems cooperate and work together, the products can be captivating and have great use. On the other hand, even though the factory was created for a great purpose, if the systems are not working together, the end product will not be fit in its total capacity.

Well, is not the Church considered the body of Christ, where Christ is the head? If He is our commander we should all be marching toward the same goal. It is interesting to me how we, as the body of Christ allow the smallest details to bring division and quarrel. It seems as if denominations have become types of clans. Instead of being able to discuss differences in opinions and interpretations with respect and love. Disputes erupt, and the satisfaction of being right becomes motivation.

Brethren, a kingdom divided can not stand! If we, as the body of Christ were to remain focused on our goal (to make disciples of the nations) and if were to be humble enough to look past differences that do not contradict our core beliefs, our imprint as ambassadors of Christ in this society would be more powerful.

Actions are a powerful tool. Through actions you can convey a message without uttering a sound. In sending a message through your actions you are also making a statement about the messenger. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances. Let’s not limit the phrase ‘ all circumstances’ to times of joy and trials. ‘All circumstances’ can also includes times when we face pressure or times when we are in the spotlight. As a follower of Christ you will often times find yourself having to choose between standing out or blending in. Exposing your light or, hiding it. Going against the currents guarantees you opposition and even criticism but, be bold and dare to be different!

Proclaim your faith, express your gratitude, not just through speech but through action. The kingdom of God needs more Tebows, those not afraid to stand out for Gods sake. If the world is not quiet in their declaration…neither should those who belong to He who created the world and all of its inhabitants. It’s time to take a stand….in a different way…on your knees! If he didn’t need our help when he created the universe..He doesn’t need it now. Like He told Job: “where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you have understanding.” (Job 38:4) To have faith in God is to know, without a doubt that what he has said will happen. The word of God says “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) If God says that He provides for the birds of the air, and He clothes the grass of the field with the splendor of beautiful flowers…why worry? We are more precious to Him than these…we just lack faith. (Matthew 6:26-32) So come alongside us on this Heaven bound journey.  “Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven….and everything else will be added.” (Matthew 6:33) Let’s get our priorities right…why not put effort into eternity? After all we will be spending a lot more time there than we will on Earth. Faith is a powerful weapon…use it…and live a GSUSTAINED (A.K.A. God-sustained) life. God bless!

I laid back next to my wife asking her to pray for me as I started to lose the feeling in my legs. I got hot and uncomfortable and started to tremble from the coldness. I thought I was going to die. I was thinking “Am I having a heart attack?”, “I’m only 23 years old!”, “Am I really going now?” We rushed to an emergency room. The doctor did an EKG, Chest X-Rays, and blood tests. Hours later, the results came in and the Doctor tells me I have “Supraventricular Tachycardia”. Can you imagine what went through my mind? I said “Super what?” That was the first of many terrifying experiences. I’m talking about a pounding heart, shortness of breath, sweating, chills, hot flashes, nausea, numbness…

So while going through these times I found myself having two options. Complain to God or praise Him for His greatness. I couldn’t have it both ways. I could either take the route of asking him a series of questions, or thank Him for the life He has given me. It was rather easy to start on the road of “Why?”. “Why is this happening to me?”, “Why do I have to go through this?”. But can I possibly know the ways of God? I found myself being sustained through God’s Word, or as we like to re-phrase it, I was G-SUSTAINED and comforted when I read Isaiah 55:8-9:

⁸ “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.
⁹ “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

It is a given that we will not always understand God’s ways. We will come to a brick wall and face the facts, we can’t figure everything out. In life we will go through all sorts of troubles, trials, and tribulations. But we have encouraging words from The King, Jesus Christ, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33).

We see in the Book of Job that God permitted the troubles that came into the life of Job. Satan went to the presence of God and asked Him for permission in bringing the tragedies to his life. In Job 1:12 God tells Satan, “everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” What did Job do about it? The man was even encouraged by his wife to “curse God and die”!

Job himself faced these two options, whether to complain to God or thank Him for the days he has given. As we read Chapter 38, we noticed that Job did in fact decide to ask Almighty God a couple of questions himself, but subsequently upon realizing that God was the One in absolute control, Job deposited all faith in Him. You see, we must trust God not only when we do understand his ways, but when we don’t as well. He is in control in our easiest times and in our hardest. Understand that He has a purpose in all things. Nothing occurs without His knowledge… and this gives us assurance like it did to David when he said in Psalm 3:5 “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.”

What I learned from Job’s experience, and hope that you take away as well, is that we may never know the reasons for the things we go through, nonetheless, we must trust God, who is perfect in all of His ways (Psalm 18:30). We must face the reality of His sovereignty, God is either in control or He is not. We certainly have no control now do we? We were born without choosing our birthdays. Who, What, Where, When, Why, How? Only God knows the answers to these questions. Likewise, we will one day leave this world and be with the Lord in His timing. We will go through life and experience unplanned circumstances such as sickness & death. This calls out the reminder we are given in Proverbs 20:24, “A man’s steps are directed by the LORD. How then can anyone understand his own way?”.

The eyes are a powerful tool. You see something and your senses, imagination, desires are triggered.  We are in fact intricately and creatively formed and we are constantly trying to find ways in which we can portray our uniqueness.

The way we dress sends out a message. It says a little something about our personalities and what we like. It’s a way to speak, without really having to say anything and it probably accomplishes a lot more than what we attribute to it. If we take a moment and look around us, we are constantly bombarded with messages, some subliminal while others not quite so.

The beauty of GSUSTAINED is its declaration of a God-sustained life, not only through wardrobe, and worship but, through lifestyle. Oh, the hidden power of a T-Shirt!  Worship goes beyond those things that come forth from our mouths, it is the way we live our lives.

So folks, let’s represent with our lives what we declare with our words! It’s more than representing…it’s proclaiming!  God Bless You
